Government Relations

GCA serves as liaison between Columbia and government at the federal, state, and city levels. We advocate on matters of importance to the higher education community and in support of all aspects of Columbia’s educational, research, and public-service missions.  Maintaining continuous communication between the University and its partners in government is an important part of our work.  GCA monitors political developments at all levels of government relevant to the University community.  We participate in the assurance of institutional compliance on governmental reporting obligations.  We also work with internal stakeholders to develop and articulate policy positions and priorities.  Students, faculty, and staff are informed of legislative and regulatory developments, while we communicate the contributions made by Columbia and America’s research universities to government officials and other public-policy makers.  GCA also represents Columbia in its membership and participation with a number of New York State and federal associations.
